Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Tambomachay – Huchuy Qosqo

Pick up from the hotel in Cusco will be at 7:00 a.m. to go in our transport to Tambomachay which is located about 11km north of the city. This is the starting point of our adventure with a slight ascent, we will pass by Qoricocha (gold lagoon) and the Yanacocha lagoon (black lagoon) with a great concentration of wild birds. Arriving at the highest point we will see an archaeological group of three pre-Inca Chullpas, funerary constructions used to house Inca burial bundles After this we will take a well-deserved break to enjoy our lunch.

As we resume our hike to descend along the spectacular and whimsical geological formation on the route to the archaeological complex of Huchuy Qosqo, through what was once part of the Inca Trail Network that connected the entire empire and you will witness the ruggedness of the Andean geography.

We will arrive at Huchuy Qosqo at approximately 15:30 pm. Huchuy Qosqo is located at 11,800 feet, on a large natural terrace elevated on the upper third of the peak above the town of Lamay. It has a magnificent view of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the snow-capped peaks on the other side. Here we will set up camp for the night under the stars of the southern Andean hemisphere.

Upon arrival we will also have a guided tour. Huchuyqosqo (little Cusco), received its name in the 20th century although it does not resemble Cusco in the slightest, it was formerly known as Kajya Qhawana (place where lightning strikes).

Tonight we will have dinner at the camp.

Day 2: Huchuy Qosqo – Lamay – Cusco

We will have our nutritious breakfast at 7:00am at our Huchuy Qosqo camp, we will pack all the equipment and take photographs of the place in the sunlight. You will have free time to explore the Terraces, Temples, and Canals of Huchuy Qosqo on your own. The Architecture has the peculiarity that the Buildings were built on finely polished stone bases, with clay plaster in the best preserved parts, but the upper floors are made of adobe (mud bricks). We will observe the stone channel that provides the water that runs through the place. At approximately 10:00am we will begin the descent towards the Sacred Valley, arriving at the small Andean town of Lamay (3000m), our descent will last approximately 2 hours. In the town of Lamay, our transportation will be waiting for us to take us back to Cusco.
