A visit to the salt mines of Maras, is to know the oldest salt extraction and artisanal production of the Peruvian territory; since in the place were found remains of pottery of ethnic groups before the Incas, as Killke and Chanapata. Besides being a historical place, this space is still being exploited by the inhabitants in an artisanal way, probably in the same way as our ancestors did.
Moray Maras and the salt mines are two unique places in Cusco. If you have the opportunity to visit, do it. It is a tour that takes you to the circular terraces of Moray that the Incas used as a laboratory to acclimatize plants that grew in warm places so they can grow in higher and colder areas. Then we take you to visit the salt mines in Maras, the local people still use it as a small salt factory to extract salt to sell in the local markets.
Our tour starts with the pick up of the group from 8:00 am to 8:30 am we will board the mobility that will take us on a journey of 1:30 hours to our first point of visit Moray, where the guide will explain everything about the enigmatic circular terraces. You will have free time to explore the area and take pictures. Then we continue to the salt mines of Maras where you can visit the different viewpoints of the salt pools, the guide will teach you all about it also if you want you can buy some souvenirs made with salt. Then, return to Cusco for a 1:4o hours trip, arriving to Cusco around 3:00 pm.
